Primary school thanks the OMCT

One pleasant return that the Trustees of the Otago Masonic Charitable Trust (OMCT) sometimes receive is the occasional “Thank you” letter from a happy beneficiary.  Melissa Ward, Principal of Waiwera South Primary School, was kind enough to pass on such a letter written by Ally Ward and Amy Liggett, two Year 8 students at her school.

Innovative learning is a very important factor at Waiwera primary and Melissa explained how the OMCT’s grant was put towards the purchase of six ottomans for the Innovative Learning Environments on the premises.  Each of the school’s three classrooms got two ottomans each and the addition of the couches to their learning environments has given the students more options with regard to where they can sit to carry out their studies.  Melissa said, “The students absolutely love them.  The ottomans get moved around the classroom and used in lots of different situations by all the students.”

“Finding money in small rural schools can be hard; since one of our focuses is small class sizes, this sees the Board of Trustees concentrating on funding a teacher,” Melissa explained.  She told us that she was “very grateful” to the Otago Masonic Charitable Trust, and added, “It was a fantastic gift, without which we would not have been able to obtain these ottomans.”

We thank Melissa for her kind words.  Just occasionally it’s nice to be noticed.
